People sometimes assume you need to walk a display lot to buy a portable building. You do not, and honestly the lot was never the useful part. What actually determines whether you end up happy is whether you got the size, the style and the site prep right, and all three of those are decided long before anybody stands next to a display model.
How ordering works for Farmington
We serve Farmington and St. Francois County directly from our main office. You can build the exact building you want in our free 3D building designer, choosing the style, the size, the siding and shingle colors, the doors and the windows, and rotate it to see it from any angle. When it looks right you send it to us and we quote it. Or you skip all of that and call 618-518-5578, tell us what you are trying to store, and we will help you scope it in about ten minutes.
What to have ready when you call
Three things make the conversation productive. First, the biggest item going inside, with real measurements. Second, a rough idea of where the building will sit and what the access looks like, especially the narrowest gate or gap. Third, whether you want it to match the house or you do not care. With those three answers we can usually tell you the right style and size on the first call.
Choosing the style
For most Farmington yards the lofted barn and lofted garden shed are the value picks, because the loft gives you storage volume without more footprint. If you want a workshop, look at the garage and lofted garage styles for the width and headroom. If the building will be visible and you want it attractive, the Victorian and side porch styles are proportioned for that. Compare them all on our building styles page and check finishing options on the custom options page.
Site prep is the part that matters
This is where buildings are won or lost. A level, compacted gravel pad slightly larger than the footprint keeps the frame square and the doors working. It needs to be genuinely level, checked with a level, not eyeballed. Concrete is better for a shop. For delivery we need about two feet more than the width of the building, roughly thirteen feet of overhead clearance, limbs cleared, and written permission ahead of time if the crew must cross a neighbor property. Our preparing for delivery page lists everything.
Timeline and payment
Stock models typically deliver in one to twelve business days and custom orders in about three to six weeks. You get a verification call roughly seven to fourteen business days after ordering and another call to set the delivery window. Rent-to-own requires no credit check and does not affect your credit score, and traditional financing with soft-pull pre-approval is available. See our rent-to-own and financing options page and our FAQ.
