Garden Sheds in Murray, KY: Sizing for Mowers and Yard Gear

Here is the most common mistake we see in Murray and across Calloway County: somebody measures their riding mower, buys a shed that fits the mower, and discovers there is nowhere to stand. A garden shed is not a garage for the mower. It is the place all of your yard work lives, and the mower is just the biggest item in it.

Size it for the aisle, not the machine

Work out the footprint of the largest thing going in, then add walking and working room on the sides you need to reach. You should be able to get to the wall behind the mower without moving the mower. You need a clear path from the door to the back so you are not playing a puzzle game every Saturday. And you need wall space, because the difference between a tidy shed and a disaster is whether shovels, rakes, trimmers and blowers hang up off the floor.

Doors decide how usable it is

A wide door on the gable end is easier to drive a mower straight into than a narrower door on the side. If you have a zero-turn, measure the deck at its widest and then add real clearance, because threading a machine through a tight opening every week gets old and eventually costs you a trim board. A separate walk door is a genuinely useful upgrade: you can grab a shovel without opening the big door.

Go up if the yard is small

If footprint is limited, our lofted garden shed and lofted barn styles give you a loft above the working floor. Bagged soil, pots, hoses, coolers and seasonal decorations go up there and the floor stays clear. This is almost always the better value than a larger flat shed. Look at the whole range of building styles.

Details that matter for garden use

Add a window or two for light and airflow, because a sealed shed in a Kentucky August is unpleasant and hard on anything with a rubber hose. Consider a ramp if you are rolling a mower in and out. Match the shingle and siding to the house so it looks like part of the property, and add flower boxes or shutters if it sits in view. It is all on the custom options page and visible in the 3D building designer.

Pad and delivery

A level, compacted gravel pad slightly larger than the building is what we recommend, and it drains well, which keeps the floor and the bottom of the door in good shape. We need about two feet more than the building width to get it in and roughly thirteen feet of overhead clearance, with low limbs cleared. Our preparing for delivery page has the full list.
