Why Columbia, IL Homeowners Keep Choosing Lofted Barns

If we mapped every building we have delivered around Columbia and Monroe County by style, one shape would dominate: the lofted barn. It is not marketing. It is math.

What the loft actually buys you

A standard shed gives you floor space and a triangle of wasted air above your head. A lofted barn puts a usable deck up in that triangle. In our lofted barn the loft adds a substantial amount of storage volume over the same ground footprint, and the building comes standard with a taller sidewall so the main floor still feels like a room instead of a crawlspace. Practically, that means the mower, the wheelbarrow and the workbench stay on the floor where you use them, and the totes, the coolers, the camping gear and the holiday bins go up. The floor stops being a pile.

Why that matters more on a subdivision lot

Columbia has a lot of newer homes on lots where every square foot of yard is visible and accounted for. Adding footprint is expensive in yard space, not just dollars. Adding height is nearly free. That is why the lofted styles almost always win here, and why people who buy a flat-roof utility shed to save a little money often call us back two years later.

When to choose something else

We will talk you out of a lofted barn in a few cases. If the building is a workshop where you need clear headroom over a bench and long material, a garage or lofted garage style is better. If it will be visible from the street and you want it to look residential, look at the Victorian or side porch styles. If you are storing something tall, like a lifted mower deck or a stand-up freezer, we need to check the loft height against it first. Compare all of the building styles before you decide.

Getting the details right

Two upgrades pay for themselves here. Extra windows, because a loft without daylight becomes a place you never look, and a wider main door, because the thing you regret is never the door being too big. Match your shingles and siding to the house on the custom options page, and see the whole thing rendered in the 3D building designer before you order.

Delivery and pad

A level gravel pad slightly larger than the footprint is what we recommend, and it needs to be genuinely level rather than close. Our delivery system can unload at the street and roll the building into a tight backyard, but we need roughly two feet more than the building width and about thirteen feet overhead, with limbs cleared. Stock models typically deliver in one to twelve business days, custom orders in three to six weeks. See our preparing for delivery page.

Financing

Rent-to-own requires no credit check and does not affect your credit score. Traditional financing with soft-pull pre-approval is also available. Details on our rent-to-own and financing options page.
