12 Questions to Ask Before You Buy a Shed in Glasgow, KY

Most people buy a shed the way they buy a mattress: they look at three, pick the one that feels right, and find out what they actually bought two years later. Ask these twelve questions of anybody you shop, including us.

1. Who built it?

Not who is selling it. Who built it. Buying from the shop that builds the building means custom changes are possible and warranty problems have one owner. We build ours in our own shop in Harrisburg, Illinois.

2. What is the warranty on the building, and how long?

Ours is a 10 year guarantee that protects against acts of nature such as storm damage and settling, and covers our craftsmanship. If it is covered, we repair it or replace it. Get whatever answer you receive in writing.

3. What is the warranty on the siding and the floor?

These are separate and they matter. Ours use LP SmartSide siding with a 50 year warranty and AdvanTech flooring with a lifetime warranty.

4. Who handles a warranty claim?

This is the question nobody asks and it is the most important one on the list. Many companies hand you a manufacturer phone number and let you make the case yourself. We handle the claim for you.

5. What are the actual lead times?

Stock buildings typically move in 1 to 12 business days. Custom builds usually run 3 to 6 weeks. If a seller will not give you a range, that is information.

6. What is the smallest and largest you build?

Ours run from 6×8 up to 16×60, with custom sizes in between.

7. What does it actually start at?

A C+ Utility 6×8 starts at $1,900 and a Cardinal Utility 8×8 starts at $2,762. Price moves with size, siding, roof, doors, windows and options. Build yours in the 3D Shed Builder for a real number.

8. What is the deposit?

Ours is 20% down on custom cash orders, or no money down financing with approved credit.

9. What are the rent-to-own terms, exactly?

Ours: no credit check, 24 to 60 month terms, payments starting at $75.44 a month on a 6×8 at 60 months, and the first two months as the deposit. Ask any seller for those four numbers specifically.

10. Is there an early payoff penalty?

We do not offer an early payoff discount, but there is no fee and no penalty for paying it off ahead of schedule. Some agreements elsewhere are not written that way. Read yours.

11. What do I have to do before delivery?

A level pad, ideally gravel about a foot larger than the building on all sides. Roughly two feet of clear width past the building along the whole path. About 13 feet of overhead clearance. Written permission if we cross a neighbor. Details on our prep page.

12. What days do you deliver?

Monday through Friday. We do not deliver on Saturdays, and it is better to know that before you take a day off.
