Cape Girardeau is one of the more interesting places we deliver, because the terrain and the street layout fight you. Older neighborhoods have narrow driveways and alleys. Newer ones have privacy fences and mature landscaping. And the whole town has hills, which means the flat spot you picked may not be as flat as it looks.
The clearance numbers that actually matter
Our crew needs roughly two feet more than the width of the building to get it through a gap, and about thirteen feet of overhead clearance. The longer the building, the more room it needs to make a turn, the same way a semi needs room at a corner. Low limbs, service drops, gutters and fence posts all count. If your narrowest point is a gate, measure post to post, not the opening you remember.
You do not need a driveway to the site
This is the part people do not expect. When access is tight the building can be unloaded at the street and then rolled back into position, so we are not dragging trucks and trailers across your lawn. That single capability is why we can serve backyards in Cape that other companies pass on. Send us photos of the approach and we will tell you honestly whether it will work before you order.
Slope and the pad
On a hillside lot the pad is the whole ballgame. A level gravel pad, built a foot or two larger than the footprint and compacted properly, is what we recommend for the great majority of sites. Concrete is the premium option and worth it for garages and shops. What we cannot fix on delivery day is a site that slopes significantly, so if yours does, tell us in advance and we will plan the blocking. Everything is on our preparing for delivery page.
Three things to do before delivery day
Clear low branches and anything else in the path. If the crew has to cross a neighbor property, get written permission ahead of time rather than knocking on the door that morning. And clean up pet refuse in the delivery area, which sounds trivial until you are the crew. You will get a verification call about seven to fourteen business days after ordering and another call to set the delivery window.
Choosing the building
For tight urban lots the lofted styles are usually the right answer because you gain storage upward instead of outward. Browse our building styles, match colors on the custom options page, and build the whole thing in the 3D building designer. Rent-to-own with no credit check is available, along with traditional financing. See our rent-to-own and financing options page.
